Blog Maintenance and No-Reply Bloggers

Just a couple of things~

First, thank you for your sweet comments today.  It's nice to know why some of you follow this blog.  Sometimes I wonder if people "get me" or if I come off weird?!?
I'm a pretty "straight-to-the-point" kind of gal, but I never want to come off rude.  You just never know how you're coming across through a computer screen... so thanks for sharing your nice thoughts!

Anyways, I learned something today, from a reader named Heather.  She brought to my attention that my blog has been on a "short RSS feed".  I don't know much about it, other than the fact that only a snippet of each of my posts shows up instead of the full post with images.  What would this blog world be, without all of the amazing images?!?  So, I wanted to be the first to tell you that A Little Bit Biased is now offering the "FULL FEED".  One question I have about all of this though is ~ where are those feeds going to?  I just always get updates through my blog "Reading List".  If a post title looks interesting then I'll click on the link and check it out.  So if you have a blog "subscription" where is that at?

Although I have been blogging for quite a while now, I will be the first to admit, that I only know the basics.  So thank you, Heather, for teaching me something new and for the rest of you, if you have a suggestion on how I can make this blog more accessible, by all means, let me know! :)

One other thing I thought I would mention is regarding
"no-reply" bloggers.  I have been wondering what the deal is with these "no-reply" addresses I see from some of my commenters...are they really NOT going to get my reply???  [I was in denial - can you believe that I would still send a response!  I'm such a dork!!!]  It's sad when you ask a question or leave a comment that I want to respond to and I can't!   In some cases, you may win a giveaway, but there is no way to get in touch with you!  If you are a no-reply blogger, you may want to check out this great post from Jodi @ Pleasant Home.  Some of you might not even know that you are...so go on!  Check it out!

Well, this was all business, wasn't it?!?  Sorry for the "no-photo post".  I think that is a first EVER.  I have been spray painting our banisters all day today and I think the fumes are getting to me.  Time to go take a bath...at 11 o'clock at night.

  2. You never seem rude at all so don't even think about that another minute!

I often find myself replying to no reply bloggers. I just don't seem to realize that "no reply" came up when I hit reply.

  3. Yay for Full Feeds! I follow a large amount of quilt related blogs and the best way for me to keep up with them all is in google reader. But I had no idea why some of the posts in google reader were short snippets and others were the full view. So thanks for the quick education in short and full feeds. I wish everyone knew that, I feel like I don't always read all the short feeds as much. I have to admit, sometimes I scroll pretty fast, so if there is a post with a short feed, that only shows a few words and no pictures, I sometimes skip over it.

  5. I too only seem to know the basics. I don't even have a feed on my blog :-S And I just don't understand the countless no-reply comments. Is it that they just choose to not list their email? I've had giveaways too and lots of no-reply bloggers leave comments.

  6. I think many people don't know that they ARE no-reply bloggers or they are worried about everyone having access to their email address, but they can set up replys to be set to a different address (just for their blog.) It's a great way for us to be able to connect and communicate with each other. Hopefully we can all start spreading the word and helping people to be educated on what no-reply bloggers are.

Cute email address by the way:)

  7. Thank you so much for fixing that! I read my blogs on Google Reader on my iPhone. On the bus, walking aroung my huge work building, waiting for the elevator... I don't have the internet power to always be pulling up someone's blog and waiting for the full page to load. In my reader, I can load one page and read all my blogs there. It saves me a ton of time!

I just recently found out about this full feed too. I said "that's why some blogs only show little snippets," then I ran to check my blog. Thanks for changing yours and for posting this!

  8. Hey Amber I just saw the picture of the large quilt you made similar to Van's. We still LOVE the one you gave us. The vibrant colors brighten my day!

  9. Hi Amber! After work today I tried your blog feed again and VOILA!! MAGIC! FULL FEED! Bless you for taking the trouble to switch your feed from partial feed to full feed because ... honestly ... no matter how good a blog is I end up unsubscribing if they don't provide full feeds. And I'm so glad to be able to follow your very inspiring blog now.

If you follow many blogs or even if you follow a few blogs, you MUST try a feed reader. I used to use bloglines but I switched to Google Reader when bloglines went through some changes. I follow so many blogs and a feed reader means you don't have to go directly to each blog to see if they've posted something new. You go to one place ... your feed reader ... and if one of the blogs you subscribe to has a new update, it tells you and shows you and that's where the beauty of full feeds comes in ... you can see it all right there. It's a HUGE time saver and it makes me SO happy!

So thanks, Amber, for wanting to make your readers happy!

  10. By the way, I was once in the "no reply" category because I had my blogger profile or parts of it set to "private". Someone pointed it out to me via a reply in the comments and I quickly changed it. For those of you reluctant to go public, I haven't been inundated with spam now that my email address is publicly available.

  11. Yay!! Full feeds! :) I just recently discovered google reader. It allows you to follow all your blogs (not just google ones) in the same place!

  12. Thanks Amber. I will be checking to see if I have short feed or not. Also went to Pleasant Home and learned some things there about blogging. I am always afraid to change anything and mess things up.
Loved your post about stashes. I can learn from your example. Now that we are in an RV, my storage doesn't allow for as much. Your are right. I always want the new stuff anyway.

  13. Great info. Ambs! I am pretty sure that I am a "reply blogger" but I should find that out for sure. I also need to look into these full feeds a bit more. xo

  14. I have to confess that I'm one of those non reply bloggers but only out of ignorance. I love following your blog and seeing all the wonderful things you do. I love the ideas and inspiration I receive every time I view "A Little Bit Biased".
