Let's Talk "Beds"

Why is it that kids like to take pictures of anything and everything?  They'll take pictures of a blank wall, a computer screen, a pile of junk, the floor...

Well yesterday afternoon I walked into my little girls room and found her making her bed.  Weird right?  I mean, I hadn't even asked her to!  Normally it's like pulling teeth to get her to clean her room.  I guess it struck me as a little odd but I didn't think too much about it.  A little while later I went to get my camera and it wasn't where I had left it.  I finally found it upstairs on the kids sofa.  When I went to pull some pictures off my camera last night I found a plethora of wonderful pictures that my little girl had taken, including this one:

I'm glad she loves her bed (and my camera).  Whatever inspires her to clean her room is fine by me though :)  At least she had the sense to make the bed before she took a photo.

So yesterday, I mentioned a little bit about an awesome Labor Day deal I scored on a queen size bed.  Here's the bed and here's the deal:

I found a very similar bed at an outlet store for $399.  I almost bought it for our guest room until my husband told me to slow down :)  You see, I was hoping to buy the $399 brown bed for our guest room as well as another queen size white bed for my daughters room.  But as always, my conservative husband pulled back the reigns.  So I didn't buy either bed, but I did continue on my merry way to look for the best deal on a white bed.

I went to about 5 stores and then at the last shop that I had planned on going to yesterday ~ I saw it.  Sitting on the front porch of this cute little barn/furniture store.  I saw the magic words:
"For Sale", "Queen" and "$150".  It also said, "small crack and scratch".  Well, we looked all over and this is all we could find:

There was no crack.  Just a couple of little scratches that a little wood stain could fix.  Simple enough, right?  My mom guarded it while I got a sales person and after making sure it really was everything I had hoped for (and getting the go ahead from the husband) ~ I bought it!  I can't believe my deal.  It was less than HALF of the price of the original bed.  I guess it pays to shop around!

I think the new bed will go really nicely with this quilt I just finished.

But now I need your opinion.  Wall color ~ what do you think?  Green?  Aqua?  Brown? Blue? Beige? What would you do?

Oh, and in case any of you are curious, this is the head board/foot board that I bought for my little girl.  It will be here in about 4 weeks.  Try to picture it with the French Roses quilt (from the first photo in this post).

I may need your opinion on paint colors for that room too when the bed arrives.  Stay tuned :)

Oh, one last thing ~ I've had a couple people tell me that they've tried and couldn't leave a comment on my blog.  If you are experiencing that problem, will you please send me an email at adctd2qultng@gmail.com?  I LOVE to hear from you and definitely want to fix the problem if it's happening more than I realize.  Thanks!  ~ Amber

  2. I love the star quilt you made. Looks like your carpet is a taupe similiar to the quilt, so I think I'd go for a med olive similiar to the quilt and for accents use the multiple shades of blue that are in the quilt. Good luck!

  3. My Sasha has that same white bed. It's very sturdy and lovely at the same time. And I love your guest quilt! I hope you have a lot of company so it will actually be plenty appreciated :-)

  4. I vote for a soft sage green. What a great deal you got! The bed and quilt will make such a beautiful bedroom.

Your daughter's room is going to be so girlie. The roses quilt will look gorgeous with it. Hopefully, she will want to take a picture each day.

  5. I love aqua and that would look wonderful, but I also think gray could be very nice as well! I love that you got the discounted price. That is exactly how I like to shop. I have been trying to find a day bed for my daughter's room. Something with a trundle or slide out bed underneath. So far I have not found anything under $500-600. I live in Maine but if you have seen anything like this in your internet pursuits I would love to know!

  6. I love the picture! My kids wouldn't have made their beds. Your quilts are beautiful.

OK! As for the posting issues. It is a known issue, that according to google help, they are working on it. It is only happening on Blogs that don't use a pop-up box for comments. I'm also not sure it is happening on any profiles other than google. Here is the fix, for google uses trying to post comments....

Sign-off google. Log back in but this time DO NOT have the "stay logged in" box checked. When they come back to your site they should be able to post comments.

Hope this helps. It works for me.

  8. Wall color - One of the neautrals with an accent wall in either the blue or the green

Problems commenting- I had this problem for awhile others had the same problem. it has to do with staying logged in to blogger. Sign out of blogger and when you sign back in uncheck the box that says keep me signed in. I don't exactly know why this works but it fixed all my "I can't leave a comment" problems.

  11. Ok, this is going to be a long comment. First off I LOVE the bed, both of them but I really, really love the quilt. 2nd I love your zig zag quilt, how have I not seen it before. I colors are awesome and now I think I have a reason to hold onto my scraps that I never use. 3rd, I'm so jealous you got to go to quilt market, I live like 45 minutes away to and it killed me just us regulars couldn't go. That is so awesome that you had a both there. Ok, and last but not least (I probably should have just e-mailed you) I noticed you have some of your own (way cute) patterns. How did you go about doing that. Did a place contact you and ask you too or did you just do it on your own. I really want to get my blog going and start coming out with some patterns but I don't even know where to start.

Love it that your daughter took pictures.

  14. I think one green wall behind the headboard and a really nice neutral on the others. And honestly, for the orange-bedding room, I LOVE the paint that's already there!

  15. Beautiful beds and a lovey quilt! I'd go with aqua or gray for the paint. If you do paint sage green, don't do it too light. I painted my bathroom that color thinking it would look wonderful and it looks like I painted with toothpaste!
