Several months ago Amanda (from the blog Jedi Craft Girl) and I met up at a quilt shop in St. George, UT. Amanda had a great idea that we should make quilts that use just 5 fat quarters. She took the lead and designed a darling table topper called Fresh Eggs (free pattern HERE). I kind of felt like a slacker since she did all the hard work so I offered to design one for the following month. We enjoyed the concept so much that we decided to do a pattern a month for a whole year! It kept us hopping and was a great way for us to get to know each other better. Thank goodness for texting, as she lives in California and I live in Utah.
Well, the year is coming to an end and together we designed 8 patterns (plus one more coming September 1st and one designed by our friend Andy Knowlton). So that's 10 patterns that we have available HERE for FREE! Annnnd, we have something special planned for the last two months.

Winners will be chosen based off of photos in the hashtag #fivefatquarterfuncontest pool. There will be 3 judges: myself, Amanda Niederhauser and Andy Knowlton.
You can make any pattern out there (as long as it uses just 5 fat quarters and up to 2 background fabrics) OR you can test your creativity and design your own 5FQF pattern! Be sure to tag us on Instagram (@jedicraftgirl and @gigis_thimble) and use the hashtag #fivefatquarterfuncontest to enter! We can't wait to see where your creativity takes you! Good luck!

Sounds like fun, but is it open to UK contestants?
ReplyDeleteYes it is. :). Thanks for asking. I'll add that to the post.
DeleteSounds like a great and fun contest!
ReplyDeleteSounds like such fun.
ReplyDeleteSounds so fun!! Would a border count as background fabric or would it be part of the 5 fat quarters?
ReplyDeleteLaura,
DeleteSorry, I should've worded that better. You need to use 5 fat quarters plus you can use up to two other fabrics for backgrounds, sashing, cornerstones and/or borders. Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions.
Good luck,
Amber
Sounds fun! Thank you for the sweet patterns you gave shared with us in fivefatquarterfun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun. Think I may try somethong.
ReplyDeleteI would like to enter but I am not on Instagram:(
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry! We wish you could enter too! If something changes we'll let you know but we thought it would be the easiest way for people to enter.
DeleteTake care,
Amber
Gosh what a great idea. I don't envy you and your fellow judges, it will be so hard to judge with all those tallented judges out there. Fab prizes. Take care Sharon x

WEEEEEOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteHey Amber! I was just wondering -- if it is my own pattern, should I post a tutorial for it on my blog? Or wait until after the contest?
ReplyDeleteHi Natalie!
DeleteYou don't have to publish the instructions but you are welcome to. And you can do that anytime you want. It's up to you!
Happy quilting!
Amber
